چکیده

Vaccinium meridionale (section Pyxothamnus ), a tetraploid species native to higher altitude locations in Jamaica, Colombia, and Venezuela, is of considerable interest blueberry breeders for its profuse, concentrated flowering monopodial plant structure, both which may be useful breeding mechanical harvest. In this study, V. was successfully hybridized as male with 4 x corymbosum Cyanococcus , highbush blueberry). The first-generation hybrids selections were intermediate morphology notably vigorous. F 1 displayed variable branching dormancy, prolificacy, fruit wax, etc.; however, most appear deciduous semi-evergreen, small, dark-colored fruit. good fertility females backcrosses these crosses have produced numerous offspring morphologically indistinguishable from at the seedling stage. Evaluations found variation pollen production quality but, significantly, some clones very shed, high stainability, almost complete tetrad production. suggests that hybrids, despite being derived intersectional crosses, might conventionally used without significant difficulty. These also potential value nascent efforts occurring South America.

Identification of dehydrin-like proteins responsive to chilling in floral buds of blueberry (Vaccinium, section Cyanococcus).

The level of three major polypeptides of 65, 60, and 14 kD increased in response to chilling unit accumulation in floral buds of a woody perennial, blueberry (Vaccinium, section Cynaococcus). The level of the polypeptides increased most dramatically within 300 h of chilling and decreased to the prechilling level with the initiation of budbreak. Cold-hardiness levels were assessed for dormant bu...

Effect of Pullulan Coating on Postharvest Quality and Shelf-Life of Highbush Blueberry (Vaccinium corymbosum L.)

Fruits form an important part of a healthy human diet as they contain many ingredients with proven pro-health effects such as vitamins, phenolic compounds, organic acids, fiber, and minerals. The purpose of this work was to evaluate the effect of pullulan coating on the quality and shelf life of highbush blueberry during storage. General appearance, weight loss, dry matter, soluble solid conten...

Chemical composition of selected cultivars of highbush blueberry fruit (Vaccinium corymbosum L.)

The purpose of the study was to compare basic fruit chemical composition of four highbush blueberry cultivars: ‘Spartan’, ‘Bluecrop’, ‘Jersey’ and ‘Blueray’. The plants were grown on plantation near Szczecin in the years 2001 – 2003. Basic chemical composition of fruit including total ash, crude fibre, total nitrogen, soluble solids, titratable acidity, dry weight and total polyphenol content w...

Processing and Storage Effects on Blueberry (Vaccinium corymbosum L.) Polyphenolics

Blueberries are commonly consumed in processed forms, but limited information is available on how different processing methods and storage of processed products impact the polyphenolic content of the fruit. In this study, we determined how canning, puréeing and juicing of blueberries, as well as storage of processed products at 25°C, influenced the retention of chlorogenic acid, total flavonols...

Native Bee Diversity and Pollen Foraging Specificity in Cultivated Highbush Blueberry (Ericaceae: Vaccinium corymbosum l.) Plantings in Rhode Island

Approximately 87% of flowering plants in the world are pollinated by animals. Bees are some of the most economically and ecologically important pollinators, necessary for the production of about one third of all crops. One such crop is highbush blueberry, grown throughout Rhode Island in small acreages. I conducted a survey of the bee species foraging on managed blueberry farms throughout Rhode...
